Full rewires are disruptive and we do not push them where they are not warranted. Often the right answer is a phased approach: address the genuinely unsafe circuits now, add the capacity the kitchen and laundry need, and take the rest as rooms come up for renovation.

Do I have to move out during a rewire?
Rarely. We phase the work so you keep power in the rooms you are using, and most families stay in the house throughout. Full-gut renovations are the exception, and then you are usually out anyway.
How much drywall damage should I expect?
Less than most people fear. We fish walls and use attic and crawl access wherever the framing allows. Some access holes are unavoidable, and we identify where those will be before we start so there are no surprises.
Is aluminium wiring something I have to replace?
Not necessarily. The problem with aluminium branch circuits is the connections, not the conductor. Approved remediation at every termination is an accepted, far less invasive fix. We assess which route makes sense for your house and tell you honestly.
Can you just do the kitchen?
Yes, and partial rewires are a large share of what we do. Kitchens and laundries carry the heaviest loads and are usually the circuits most out of step with modern code, so they are a sensible place to start.

Does rewiring require permits?

How do I know if I have aluminum wiring?
The clearest check is at the panel or at a receptacle, with the power off, where the conductor is visibly silver rather than copper coloured. The cable jacket on older aluminium branch circuits is often marked AL or ALUMINUM. Homes built roughly between the mid-1960s and the mid-1970s are the ones to look at. If you are not certain, do not open devices to find out. We can confirm it in a few minutes on a site visit.
Will rewiring increase my home value?
It rarely shows as a separate line on an appraisal, but it removes one of the largest objections a buyer or an inspector can raise on an older home.
