Lighting That Actually Suits The Room

Upgrade your indoor and outdoor specialty lighting, holiday lighting, and landscape lighting with a crew that has been doing it here since 1973.

  • Recessed and specialty
  • LED retrofits
  • Dimming done properly

Lighting is the fastest way to change how a room feels, and the easiest thing to get wrong. Too few cans and you get pooling and shadow. Too many and the room reads like an office. The wrong colour temperature makes good finishes look cheap, and the wrong dimmer makes new LEDs buzz and flicker.

We install indoor and outdoor lighting throughout Polk County: recessed cans, under-cabinet runs, pendants and chandeliers, vanity and closet lighting, exterior wall packs, soffit and security lighting, and specialty fixtures. We handle the layout, the switching, and the dimming as one job rather than three.

For exterior and landscape work, see our landscape lighting page. For seasonal displays, see holiday lighting.

Common Questions

Lighting Installation FAQs

Why do my new LED lights flicker or buzz on the dimmer?

Almost always a dimmer mismatch. Older dimmers were designed for the resistive load of an incandescent bulb, and an LED driver behaves nothing like that. A dimmer rated for LED, matched to your specific fixtures, resolves it in most cases.

Can you add recessed lighting without tearing up my ceiling?

Usually. Remodel-style housings install from below through a single cutout, and we route the wiring through the ceiling cavity. Attic access makes it easier. We will tell you honestly if a particular layout is going to require drywall work.

What colour temperature should I choose?

For most living areas, 2700K to 3000K reads warm and natural. Kitchens and workspaces often suit 3500K to 4000K. The bigger rule is consistency: mixing temperatures within a sightline is what makes a room look off, more than any single choice.

Do you install fixtures I bought myself?

Yes, we install customer-supplied fixtures regularly. We will check that it is listed and appropriate for the location before we hang it, especially for wet and damp locations like lanais and bathrooms.

What is the average cost to install recessed lighting in Florida?

It depends on how many fixtures, whether there is attic access above the ceiling, whether the ceiling is flat or vaulted, whether a new circuit and switch leg are needed, and whether the job requires a permit. Retrofit housings in an accessible ceiling are far quicker than a vaulted ceiling with no access above it. Published Florida cost guides quote broad per-fixture ranges, but those are general market figures rather than our price. We look at the ceiling and the layout, then quote the job before we start.

Do I need a permit for recessed lighting?

Swapping a fixture for a like fixture generally does not. Adding new fixtures on a new circuit, running new wiring, or adding a switch leg usually does, and for a full recessed lighting job in Polk County that is the norm rather than the exception. We tell you at the estimate whether yours needs one, and if it does we pull it and schedule the inspection.

Why is wet-rated lighting important for Florida homes?

Because everything outdoors here gets wet, and a lot of what is nominally sheltered still takes blowing rain. A damp-rated fixture is fine for a covered lanai or a soffit that never sees direct water. Anything exposed to rain, irrigation spray, or a wind-driven storm needs a wet-rated fixture with proper gaskets. Fitting an indoor-rated fixture outdoors is how you get corrosion in the socket, a tripping GFCI, and a fixture that fails within a season.

How can I save money on my recessed lighting installation?

Do a whole room at once rather than in stages, since the setup and the ceiling access are much of the labour. Use retrofit housings where the ceiling allows it instead of opening drywall. Keep the fixtures on as few new circuits as the load permits. And settle the layout and the colour temperature before we start, because moving a can after the ceiling is patched costs more than putting it in the right place first.

How much does it cost to install a light fixture?

A straight swap where a box and a switch already exist is a short job. The cost climbs when there is no box in the ceiling, when the fixture is heavy enough to need a rated brace, when the ceiling is high, or when a new switch leg or dimmer has to be run. Chandeliers over stairwells and two-storey rooms take longer for the access alone. We quote from what we see, and you get the number before we touch anything.
