Landscape Lighting That Earns Its Keep

Adds beauty and security to your home or business. Outdoor lights improve the safety of family members, employees, and customers.

  • Low-voltage systems
  • Security and safety
  • Built for Florida weather

Landscape lighting does two jobs at once. It makes a property look considerably better after dark, and it removes the dark corners and unlit approaches that make a property an easy target. Most clients come to us for one reason and stay happy about the other.

A good system is quiet about itself. You see the oak lit from below, the path clear underfoot, the entry welcoming, and you do not see a single glaring fixture or a run of cable across the mulch. That is a design question as much as an electrical one, and it is where most DIY kits fall down.

Florida is hard on outdoor equipment. Sprinkler spray, sandy soil, summer humidity, and salt air on the coast all shorten the life of anything not specified for it. We install fixtures and transformers rated to survive here.

Common Questions

Landscape Lighting FAQs

Is low-voltage lighting safe around irrigation and children?

That is exactly why we use it. A 12-volt system carries a fraction of the shock risk of line voltage, which makes it the right choice around sprinkler zones, pool decks, and areas where kids and pets are underfoot. The transformer stays safely at the house.

How long do landscape fixtures last in Florida?

It depends entirely on the fixture. Cheap aluminium and plastic units fail within a couple of seasons here. Brass and copper fixtures with quality gaskets will run for many years and develop a patina rather than corroding through. We recommend the latter, and we say why.

Can you add to a system I already have?

Usually. The first question is whether the existing transformer has spare capacity and whether the cable gauge can carry the additional run without voltage drop at the far end. We test both before quoting an expansion.

Do you do commercial landscape lighting?

Yes. Office parks, retail centres, HOA common areas, and multi-family properties. Commercial work usually leans harder on safety and liability lighting, and we design to that priority.

How much does landscape lighting installation cost?

The drivers are fixture count and fixture quality, the transformer size, how far the runs are from the transformer, whether we are trenching through established landscaping or open ground, and whether controls such as timers, photocells, or app control are included. Brass and copper fixtures cost more than aluminium and last many times longer here, which moves the number considerably. Published Central Florida guides show wide ranges for a full system, and those are general market figures. We design the layout first, then quote it.

Do I need a permit to install outdoor lighting?

A low-voltage system fed from an existing exterior outlet generally does not require one. Adding the dedicated exterior circuit and outlet that feeds the transformer usually does, and any line-voltage exterior fixture certainly does. We tell you which applies to your property, and if a permit is needed we pull it. HOA rules are a separate matter worth checking, since some Polk County communities restrict fixture height, brightness, and colour.

How long does an outdoor lighting installation take?

A modest system of six to ten fixtures around an entry and a couple of trees is commonly a single day. Larger designs with long cable runs, multiple zones, trenching across a driveway, or a new dedicated circuit at the house run to two or three days. We walk the property and agree the layout with you before any cable goes in the ground, which is the part that avoids rework.

Is outdoor lighting installation worth the investment?

For most properties, yes, on two counts. It removes the dark approaches and unlit corners that make a house an easy target, which is the practical argument. And it is one of the few improvements that changes how the property looks every single evening rather than in one room. The systems that disappoint are the cheap kit installs that corrode within two seasons, which is an equipment choice rather than an argument against the idea.

Can I install outdoor lighting myself?

A plug-in low-voltage kit, yes, within its limits. Where it goes wrong is voltage drop on long runs, an undersized transformer, cable buried too shallow or run through an irrigation line, and connections that let water in. The circuit and exterior outlet feeding the transformer is line-voltage work that has to be done and protected properly. We are usually called in to correct the wiring rather than the fixtures.

How much does it cost to run outdoor lighting?

Very little with LED. A modern low-voltage LED fixture typically draws a few watts, so a dozen fixtures running five or six hours an evening is a small addition to a monthly bill. Halogen systems, which is what many older installations still use, draw roughly ten times as much for the same light. That is why a retrofit often pays for itself faster than owners expect.
